School Performance Award (Governor Education Award)
The objective of the award is to sustain the gains made in learning outcomes by providing additional performance based incentive to qualifying schools. The awards are given to schools that have achieved improvements based on the school’s composite score in standardised tests in English, Mathematics and the Sciences as compared to previous years result.
This award was also instituted to create a sense of healthy rivalry amongst schools and accentuate the importance and value of education towards the State achievement of excellence. It is worthy of note that this is the first Governor’s Education Award in the State.
Awards will include the presentation of cash prizes of N2 million each to 20% of the 639 schools in the State. The award ceremony bring s together stakeholders in the education sector including dignitaries from federal, state and local governments, members of the organised private sector, the academia, traditional rulers, parents, teachers, education administrators and students. Next year’s award will incorporate additional criteria to include students and teachers’ attendance, team work, effective grant utilisation and school leadership.
The expected outcome of this sub-component is that principals and teachers make concerted effort to maintain or raise the level of achievement of their students.
